Volleyball cruises to three-set win at Mary Baldwin

Box Score STAUNTON, Va. — Averett University volleyball notched a 3-0 sweep of conference foe Mary Baldwin University on Wednesday night. The Cougars won 25-10, 25-17, 25-12.

Averett (6-7, 2-2 USA South) dominated from the start by jumping out to a 16-4 lead in the opening frame. After taking the first set 25-10, the Cougars battled with Mary Baldwin (1-14, 0-4 USA South) midway through the second game. Averett, which led 16-11, pulled away for a 25-17 win to go up 2-0 in the match.

The Cougars put away the Fighting Squirrels easily in the third set. Averett led 17-6 before securing its second conference road win with a 25-12 advantage in the last game.

Individual statistics were not immediately available.
 
Averett hosts a USA South tri-match on Friday at the Grant Center. The Cougars play Pfeiffer University at 3 p.m. and face William Peace University at 7 p.m. as part of Homecoming festivities. Pfeiffer and William Peace also square off at 5 p.m.
