The Series: The Cougars have faced the Hornets 10 times since 2003, and this will be the first matchup since 2015. Averett holds a 6-4 series record, winning the first five games, losing the next four and winning the most recent game in 2015. Additionally, the Cougars are 4-0 against Lynchburg at home, 0-1 on the road and 2-3 in neutral site locations.
Averett at a Glance: Coming off an elite 32-4 (15-1 USA South) campaign in 2017, the Cougars began their season by hosting the 24th Annual Cougar Classic in the Grant Center on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Over the course of the weekend, Averett earned a 2-2 overall record, with 3-1 wins over both Randolph and Guilford but a 3-1 loss to Southern Virginia and a 3-0 loss at the hands of Roanoke.
Lynchburg at a Glance: Lynchburg also put together a respectable season in 2017, going 17-8 (7-4 ODAC). To start off the 2018 year, the Hornets went 1-3 while competing in the Route 42 Classic in Harrisonburg, Va., earning a 3-1 victory over N.C. Wesleyan, but piling on losses to Salem, Catholic and Marymount.
