DANVILLE, Va. — Senior
Huso Dukic nets game-winning goal with 16 minutes remaining in regulation as the Averett University men's soccer team edged out Ferrum College by a final of 2-1 Saturday afternoon on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Dukic's late second half strike broke a 1-1 tie when the senior played a ball into the left side of the box, cut back past a Ferrum defender and blasted a shot past the Panther goalkeeper. The goal was the first for Dukic on the year and marked a three-point afternoon for the veteran.
Following three scoreless contests to open the season, Averett (1-3) got on the board early in the first half as Dukic placed a free ball from the 30-yard line directly into the box and freshman
Erik Blick headed a ball into the back of the net to put the Cougars up 1-0.
Ferrum (3-1) evened the contest at 1-1 in the 29th minute when Sam May played a ball into the left side of the box to the feet of teammate Moore Dolue who fired a shot just past the diving reach of Averett netmind.
Junior
Austin Bramhall impressed in goal for the Cougars collecting 9 saves for the matchup and allowing just a lone goal.
Averett is set to return back to action Sept. 9 when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. for a 4 p.m. meeting with Guilford College.
