ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Dadez has record day in Averett University volleyball's conference tri-match sweep of N.C. Wesleyan College 3-1 and Methodist University 3-1.
Game 1:
Averett (13-11, 10-1 USA South) came out strong in the opening set on Saturday, rolling off a dominating 25-17 Set 1 victory to take and early 1-0 lead.
The Cougars continued their opening set momentum with a hard fought 25-23 Set 2 victory to go up 2-0.
N.C. Wesleyan (9-15, 4-6 USA South) battled back in the third set to pull within 2-1 of the Cougars with a 25-14 Set 3 victory.
However, Averett rebounded in Set 4 to take the match 3-1 with a 25-21 set win.
Freshmen
Lauren Montren and
Morgan Barnes paced the squad with 10 kills apiece, while sophomore
Sarah Shropshire and senior
Madison Dadez each added nine kills.
Montren added a team-high 17 digs to complete the double-double, while junior
Myka Patterson collected 14 scoops
Freshman
Meg Hopkins recorded a team-high 37 assists in her first collegiate start at the setter position, while also collecting a match-high four service aces.
Dadez finished with a team-high four blocks and .444 hitting percentage, while Barnes collected three blocks of her own and hit .389 en route to the victory.
Game 2:
The Cougars would continue their winning ways in the second game of Saturday's tri-match winning 25-22 in Set 1 to take a 1-0 advantage over Methodist.
Methodist (3-15, 2-8 USA South) evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 Set 2 victory, however Averett capitalized on a dominating 25-12 Set 3 to regain the match lead at 2-1.
Saturday's eventual deciding fourth set was one for the ages as Averett trailed the Monarchs 24-21 and managed to avoid the deciding set point to even the match 24-24 and take the win 30-28.
Dadez finished with a career-high 15 kills, hitting .333 for the match and collecting three blocks.
Montren continued her double-double ways, tallying 11 kills and a game-high 18 digs.
After recording her career-high against N.C. Wesleyan in the opening game of the day, Hopkins added a new career-high 43 assists in the victory, while sophomore
Zamyiah Mangum and Barnes added eight and nine kill performances, respectively.
