STAUNTON, Va.
— Needing a win to advance to the USA South Conference Tournament, the Averett University men's soccer team ended its season in a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to Mary Baldwin University on the road on Saturday.
The first half was scoreless, as both Averett (5-11-2, 3-8-2 USA South) and Mary Baldwin (8-10, 5-8 USA South) each took three shots in the opening half. However, the Fighting Squirrels scored in the 68th minute to take a 1-0 lead, one they didn't relinquish for the remainder of the game.
The Cougars finished the day with eight shots compared to nine from Mary Baldwin. Sophomore
Johnny Kummander led the team with three shots, including two on goal, while sophomore
Erik Blick had two shots. In goal, junior
Colton Dutchess made four saves.
This game concluded the 2019 season for the Cougars.
