Averett at a Glance:  Averett comes off its bye week to open USA South Conference play. The Cougars defeated Ferrum College 35-12 in their last contest on Sept. 21. Averett played well, getting several solid individual performances that yielded awards from the conference and even nationally. Senior linebacker Conner Showalter was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after earning USA South Defensive Player of the Week following a seven-tackle, two-interception effort. Senior quarterback Jacob Wright accounted for four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) while throwing for a career-high 234 yards, which earned him USA South Offensive Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Senior punter/kicker Cole Westberry averaged more than 50 yards per punt and hit all five extra points to earn USA South Special Teams Player of the Week.
Greensboro at a Glance: Greensboro is fresh off its first win of the season where the Pride defeated Gallaudet University 27-25 last Saturday on the road. That win came after the Pride was outscored 78-15 over the first two games, including a 55-7 home loss to Ferrum on Sept. 14.
