DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's team dropped its final game of the Cougar Tip-Off by the final of 68-56 to Piedmont College on Sunday.
Averett (2-3) jumped out to a 12-9 advantage following the opening quarter, however Piedmont capitalized on a 23-10 second quarter run to take a 32-22 lead into halftime.
Piedmont (3-2) would loose the third quarter scoring margin 21-17 to the Cougars, but its 13 point third quarter run and a 19-13 fourth quarter edge paced the Lions to a 68-56 win.
Freshman
Briana Payne made it back-to-back double-digit scoring games with 15 points against Piedmont; also collecting a game-high seven steals on the day, to follow up a career-high 27 points against Huntingdon on Saturday.
Senior
Brooke Carthon finished with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while sophomore
Camryn Lunsford added 13 points as well.
The Cougars will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina for the N.C. Wesleyan College Tip-Off. Battling Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and St. Mary's College of Maryland on Sunday at 2 p.m.
