GREENSBORO, N.C. — Averett University men's basketball fell to No. 19 Guilford College 76-61 in non-conference action on Wednesday night.
Averett (2-2) was tied 17-17 with Guilford (4-1) following sophomore
Isaiah Jones' layup midway through the first half. However, the Quakers went on a 9-1 run over the next five minutes to distance themselves en route to a 34-28 halftime lead.
Guilford extended its lead early in the second half and held off the Cougars the rest of the way. The Quakers shot 48.1 percent from the floor and 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Guilford also hit 21 of 28 free throw attempts.
Jones finished with a team-high 18 points, while senior
Timothy Henry notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, including nine offensive boards. Junior
Montre' Cash added seven rebounds and six assists and junior
Raymond Bullock III finished with seven points and six boards for Averett, which won the battle on the glass 43-39.
Jorden Davis led Guilford with 23 points, while Kyler Gregory added 15 points and 13 rebounds. Liam Ward also scored 17 points for the Quakers.
Averett travels to play non-conference foe Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday.
