DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball defeated Greensboro College 3-1 in Tuesday's USA South Conference Tournament quarterfinals held at the Grant Center, sending the Cougars to Friday's semifinals hosted by Averett.
Averett (18-15), the No. 1 seed in the East Division, beat East Division No. 5 seed Greensboro 25-19, 25-13, 17-25 and 25-12.
The Cougars will face the West Division No. 2 seed Huntingdon College on Friday at 6:30 p.m. West No. 1 seed Maryville College and East No. 2 seed Meredith College play at 4 p.m. The teams will vie for a spot in Saturday's conference championship match.
Against the Pride on Tuesday, Averett dominated the attack, hitting .300 for the match — including a .500 hitting percentage in the clinching fourth set. Three Cougars had double-digit kills, led by freshman
Lauren Montren's double-double of 16 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore
Sarah Shropshire also had 12 kills and freshman
Morgan Barnes had 10 kills while hitting a staggering .526 with no errors. Senior

Zamyiah Mangum each had nine kills, with Mangum totaling a team-high 22 digs. Juniors

Myka Patterson and freshman
Meg Hopkins each chipped in 12 digs, with Miller recording 48 assists at setter.
Averett had little trouble with Greensboro through the first two sets, but the Pride fought back to win Set 3. The Cougars responded with their best game of the match in Set 4.
Greensboro upset East Division No. 4 seed Salem College in five sets earlier in the night. Salem led the match 2-0 before the Pride came from behind to steal it 20-25, 15-25, 25-16, 25-21 and 15-11.
