Box Score EMORY, Va. — The Averett University women's basketball team dropped its 2019-20 season opener against Emory & Henry College by the final of 71-60 on the road Friday evening.
Emory & Henry (1-0) benefitted from a 17-9 opening quarter run which played a factor late in the decision.
Averett (0-1) evened the Wasps 15-15 apiece in the second quarter and outscore Emory & Henry 18-14 in the third quarter, however the Wasps held on for the 71-60 victory.
Senior
Brooke Carthon led the Cougars in scoring with 16 points, while senior
Ravyn Johnson and sophomore
Camryn Lunsford added 14 and 11 points, respectively.Â
Johnson finished with a team-high nine rebounds and three steals, while Carthon pulled down eight boards in a team-high 35 minutes.Â
Emory & Henry finished with a 42-28 points in the paint discrepancy, while Averett converted on 17 second chance points and finished with 13 offensive rebounds.Â
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they host the University of Lynchburg at 7 p.m.
