Averett at a Glance: Averett opened the season with two wins over three games at the Piedmont College Classic under first-year head coach Natalie Ruechel. The Cougars topped Centre College 3-2 on Saturday in their last outing. On Monday, freshman Hannah Thompson earned USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors. Averett wasn't scheduled to play at home until March 5 against Bluefield, but the teams moved up the doubleheader several weeks in case the Cougars' weekend games get rained out at the Triangle Classic in Cary, North Carolina, on Saturday.
