DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's tennis opened its spring season with an 8-1 conference win over William Peace University on Saturday at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (2-1) won all three doubles matches. Junior
Nicolas Yanes and freshman
Patrick Shields picked up an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while junior
Mathias Reusch and sophomore
Simon Levinsson teamed up for an 8-1 win at the No. 2 slot. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore
Alvaro Jimenez and freshman
Alberto Compte were ahead 2-0 when their opponents had to retire.
William Peace (0-1) picked up its only point by winning the No. 1 singles match. Senior
Abdugani Ganiev, freshman
Luis Chen, freshman
Fabian Howding and Jimenez all earned straight-set wins at their respective slots.
Averett's match Sunday against Guilford College was postponed. The Cougars next face Division II Lees-McRae College on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
