Baseball falls to Greensboro in USA South action

Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Averett University baseball team dropped Game 2 of its three-game series with Greensboro College by a final of 5-0 Saturday evening in USA South Conference play.
 
Greensboro (8-11, 5-5 USA South) struck for the game-winning run in the bottom of the third inning and added three more in the sixth and one in the eighth to push its lead to 5-0.
 
Averett (3-19, 2-9 USA South) had chances through the contest to cut into Greensboro's lead, however the Cougars were unable to push across a runner. 
 
Sophomore Tucker Majetic gave the Cougars one of their best scoring opportunities following a leadoff single to open the seventh. Majetic advanced to third, but the Pride managed to hold Averett off the board.
 
Sophomore Ryan Traylor got the start for the Cougars, the right-hander pitched eight strong innings, allowing four runs and striking out four batters. 
 
Junior Chase McKinney turned in the Cougars top offensive performance finishing 2-4 from the plate, while sophomore Tanner Bradshaw, Majetic and junior Nick Winston capped off the Cougars hits. 
 
Averett returns back to action Sunday as it closes out a three-game series with Greensboro beginning at 2 p.m.
