DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis team notched its fourth consecutive victory in a 5-4 win over Meredith College on Wednesday at the Averett Tennis Courts.
The win for Averett (5-1, 1-0 USA South) marked its first conference win of the season and was the team's first win over Meredith (1-5, 0-1 USA South) since 1999. The Cougars' four-match winning streak is also the longest winning streak in over a decade.

Eleanor Crane logged the team's only win in doubles play with an 8-0 victory in No. 1 doubles.
In singles, the No. 21-ranked Sarkkinen cruised her way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 slot, while freshman
Kristina Hedelt notched a 6-4, 6-0 victory in No. 4 singles. With Averett trailing, 4-3, Crane grabbed a 7-5, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles to tie the match at 4 apiece. Freshman
Inka Zeilstra then had the game sealing victory with a 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3 win in No. 3 singles to take home the win for Averett.
The Cougars hit the road on Friday to take on Southern Virginia University at 3 p.m.
