FERRUM, Va. — The Averett University baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision to rival Ferrum College Tuesday afternoon on the road.
Ferrum (7-5, 2-0 ODAC) benefited from three runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead over the Cougars. The Panthers later added runs in the seventh and eighth innings to increase their lead to 5-0.
Averett (1-12, 0-6 USA South) was limited to four hits on the afternoon as Ferrum starter Drew Calohan pitched eight complete innings earning the win.
The Cougars countered Calohan with sophomore
Cole Spain who turned in arguably his best performance on the year pitching six innings, scattering seven hits while striking out seven batters.
Averett will host Eastern Mennonite University, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Owen-Fulton Field.
