Averett at a Glance: Averett split a doubleheader at Maryville College last Saturday. After falling in Game 1 to the Scots, 3-1, the Cougars crushed Maryville 8-0 in six innings to win Game 2. Averett has run-ruled opponents in four of its last five games. The Cougars have earned recognition several times this season, including taking three USA South weekly awards on Monday. Junior Kaitlyn Aherron was named the USA South Player of the Week, freshman Anna Coleman was named the Rookie of the Week and freshman Hannah Thompson was selected as the Rookie pitcher of the Week for the third consecutive week. 
Lynchburg at a Glance: The Hornets received 15 votes in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, just missing out making the top 25. Lynchburg is off to a 6-0 start after sweeping doubleheaders against Methodist University, Geneva College and Salem College. On Tuesday, the Hornets topped Salem 1-0 and 2-1 at home.
