GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team fell to non-conference foe Guilford College, 20-5, on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Averett (3-2) tied it at 1-1 just over eight minutes into the game, but Guilford (4-2) scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead and didn't look back as it extended the lead to 10-3 at halftime. The Quakers scored 10 more in the second half while the Cougars added two as Guilford outshot Averett, 35-11, on the game. However, the Cougars did hold a 16-11 advantage in draw controls, including an 11-3 edge in the first half.
Senior
Alixis Roccia led the team with three goals, one assist and a career-high nine draw controls. Additionally, her assist was the 21st of her career, tying Averett's program record for career assists. Meanwhile, sophomore
Elizabeth Peasley scored one goal and had four draw controls. Sophomore
Haley Boardway scored the team's final goal, her first of the season, and also tallied an assist. In goal, sophomore
Breanne Sawall made nine saves.
The Cougars return to action on March 12 for their first home game since the season opener as they host Ferrum College at 7 p.m.
