DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team won 9-0 over Greensboro College on Tuesday.
Sophomore
Alvaro Jimenez and freshman
Alberto Compte won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles before senior
Abdugani Ganiev and freshman
Fabian Howding won their fourth match as a pair at No. 1 doubles by an 8-1 score. Averett (8-5, 4-3 USA South) won by default at No. 3 doubles to earn the 3-0 lead over Greensboro (0-10, 0-10 USA South) heading into singles play.
Howding and Ganiev carried the momentum from their doubles win into singles play to clinch the match for the Cougars. Howding won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while Ganiev was victorious 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Jimenez and Compte both won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively to extend the Averett lead to 7-0.
A 6-4, 7-6 victory at No. 2 singles by sophomore
Thomas Woodcock and a Greensboro default at No. 6 singles gave the Cougars the 9-0 victory.
Averett hosts Methodist University on Thursday for their home finale. Doubles are set to start at 3:30 p.m.
