RALEIGH, N.C. — In the final match of the regular season, the No. 18 regionally ranked Averett University men's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory over William Peace University on the road on Saturday.
Averett (9-6, 5-4 USA South) got things started by securing all three doubles points. In No. 1 doubles, the duo of juniors
Nicolas Yanes and
Mathias Reusch grabbed an 8-5 win, while the team of senior
Abdugani Ganiev and freshman
Fabian Howding and the pair of sophomores
Alvaro Jimenez and
Thomas Woodcock both earned 8-0 victories in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
This strong play continued into singles competition as sophomore
Simon Levinsson notched a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 slot to start things off. Howding kept it going with a 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles while freshman
Luis Chen logged a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Jimenez added a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 5 singles while freshman
Alberto Compte concluded the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in No. 6 singles.
With this match concluding regular season play for the Cougars, they have secured the No. 3 seed in the USA South East Division and are scheduled to face the West No. 2-seeded LaGrange College in the opening round of the USA South Conference Tournament on April 26 at 10 a.m.
