The Series: Dating back to 2005, the series between Averett and Huntingdon is tied 5-5. However, the Cougars are 5-3 against Huntingdon since the Hawks joined the USA South. The two have met once in conference tournament play (Averett defeated Huntingdon 7-2 in 2017 on its way to the tournament title).
Averett at a Glance: The Cougars, who are the No. 5 seed in the East Division, defeated East No. 2 seed William Peace in the first round best-of-three series by knocking out the Pacers with wins of 4-2 and 6-5 (10 innings). That allowed Averett to advance to the double-elimination portion of the USA South Conference Tournament in LaGrange. The Cougars face a tough Huntingdon team that earned the West Division's No. 3 seed.
Huntingdon at a Glance: The Hawks survived a three-game first-round series that went the distance against West Division No. 4 seed LaGrange College. Huntingdon won the opener 5-4, lost 5-3 and then finished off the Panthers with a series-clinching 6-3 victory last Saturday. The Hawks' lineup features two USA South All-Conference First Team selections in Annie Nolan and Madison Hunt, as well as four West Division Second Team selections.
Duja vu?: The last time Averett and Huntingdon faced off, it was to start the 2017 USA South Tournament in LaGrange and kicked off the Cougars' magical tournament run that saw them win the championship and earn an NCAA Regional berth. Coincidentally, if the Cougars can beat Huntingdon on Friday, they would play Maryville College at 2 p.m. Friday, which is the same path they faced in 2017.
What's next?: An Averett win over Huntingdon would earn them a meeting with Maryville at 2 p.m. later Friday. Should the Cougars lose to Huntingdon, they would play an elimination game on Saturday at 10 a.m.
