DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University baseball team dropped an 8-0 decision to the University of Mary Washington Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action from Owen-Fulton Field.
Mary Washington (7-12) manufactured a run in both the first and second inning to take an early 2-0 lead over the Cougars, before scoring four runs in the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Averett (5-24) allowed runs in the sixth and the eighth innings as the Eagles increased their lead to 8-0.
Offensively, the Cougars were lead by juniors
Nick Winston,
Andrew Lancaster and sophomore's
Ryan Traylor,
Dante George and
Martin Nicolay who all recorded hits.
Traylor pitched a scoreless ninth inning of relief not allowing a hit, while also reaching base safely on two consecutive hit by pitches.
Averett returns back to action Thursday as it travels to Hampden-Sydney College for a 4 p.m. start.
