DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team fell 24-1 to Meredith College on Wednesday night to end Averett's six-game win streak.
Meredith (11-3, 7-0 USA South) took control from the beginning of the match and carried it throughout the first half. The Avenging Angels had the 11-5 advantage in ground balls and draw controls which helped them maintain the majority of the possession leading to 27 shots and 15 goals. The insurmountable pressure from the Avenging Angels made it hard for Averett (9-3, 5-1 USA South) to gain rhythm in their attacking third in the opening stages of the match. Meredith led 15-0 at the halftime break.
Sophomore
Caroline Earle would tally Averett's lone goal of the match in the 32nd minute of play off a feed from senior
Alixis Roccia. However, the Avenging Angels would quickly turn the momentum back in their favor as they scored nine goals over the duration of the match while keeping the Cougars off the scoreboard to win 24-1.
The Cougars travel to Demorest, Georgia, on Saturday to take on Piedmont College. Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
