Averett at a Glance: A young Averett team went 0-3 to open the season at its own Cougar Classic. Averett fell 3-1 to both Bob Jones University and Roanoke College. In the final match against a strong Southern Virginia University team, the Cougars battled back to force a fifth set before losing in extra points, 20-18.
Marymount at a Glance: The Saints opened the season with three losses entering play on Friday. Marymount lost 3-0 to No. 4 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and 3-0 to host No. 14 Christopher Newport University. The Saints also fell 3-1 to No. 3 Juniata College. Marymount opens play at the Randolph-Macon Invitational earlier in the day against the host Yellow Jackets at 3 p.m.
Salisbury at a Glance: The Sea Gulls are 4-0 to start the season following 3-1 wins over Thiel College and Susquehanna University, as well as 3-0 wins against Clark University and Muhlenberg College in Salisbury's own Sea Gull Classic.
