ASHLAND, Va. — Averett University volleyball dropped its final two games of the Randolph-Macon Invitational on Saturday afternoon falling 3-1 to Susquehanna University in the first game and 3-0 to host Randolph-Macon in the final game.
Game 1:
Averett (0-7) came out swinging in the first set on Saturday winning 25-23 to take a 1-0 lead, aided by 10 kills on 32 attempts.
Susquehanna (5-1) rebounded in the second set winning 25-15 to tie the match at 1-1, before taking the third and fourth set by finals of 25-22 and 25-14, respectively.
Sophomore
Zamyiah Mangum and senior
Madison Dadez paced the club with eight kills apiece, while Freshman
Lauren Montren and sophomore
Sarah Shropshire each added seven kills.
Junior
McKenzie Miller recorded a team-high 26 assists, while Montren added a team-high 13 digs.
Game 2:
Randolph-Macon (6-2) jumped out to a 25-12 set one victory to take a 1-0 lead early in the match, however Averett battled back in the second set before falling 25-20 and 25-17 in set three to fall 3-0 in the final game of the Randolph-Macon Invitational.
Dadez and Shropshire led the way for the Cougars against Randolph-Macon with 10 kills apiece, while Miller added 27 assists and eight digs for the match.
The Cougars will take a brief hiatus before returning to action Sept. 14 for a tri-match with Piedmont College and Reinhardt University in Demorest, Ga.
