Brooke Carthon poured in a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double to help Averett University women's basketball knock off Pfeiffer University 64-57 for its second straight USA South Conference victory on Saturday.Â

Averett (10-6, 4-3 USA South) got off to a slow start Saturday, trailing 15-11 after the opening quarter as Pfeiffer netted 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions, including a buzzer beater to take an early edge.Â

The Cougars bounced back in the second quarter with a 19-11 run, benefitting from a 30-26 lead at the break as Carthon and freshman
Courtney Scott both caught fire in the quarter.Â

Pfeiffer (7-9, 4-4 USA South) dropped the third quarter battle with Averett 14-9, before bouncing back to win the fourth quarter 22-20.

However, the damage had been done as Averett was able to hang on for the victory, backed by a seven point fourth quarter from senior
Kiara Smith and clutch free throw shooting down the stretch from Carthon.Â

Senior
Ravyn Johnson played well for the Cougars finishing the afternoon with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Scott collected 11 points and eight rebounds.Â

Sophomore
Genesis Weiters continued her strong play, finishing with seven points and five rebounds, while Carthon also posted a game-high five assists.Â

The Cougars controlled the glass on Saturday dominating with a 51-38 rebound margin and scoring 20 second chance points.Â

Averett with put its two-game winning streak to the test on Sunday when it battles Methodist University on the road at 2 p.m.Â
