DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's basketball earned its sixth consecutive win by taking down conference foe Pfeiffer University 83-65 on Saturday afternoon in the Grant Center.
A hot start helped Averett (12-6, 8-2 USA South) take control of the game early as freshman
Corey Baldwin accounted for eight of the Cougars' first 10 points as Averett opened with an 18-4 advantage midway through the period. Pfeiffer (9-8, 4-5 USA South), which trailed by double digits the rest of the half, got within 44-32 by halftime.
Averett continued its domination of Pfeiffer in the second half, increasing its lead to as many as 26 points late in the game. The Cougars benefitted from strong scoring performances by Baldwin, senior
Timothy Henry and sophomore
Isaiah Jones. Jones finished with a team-high 19 points with six rebounds and three assists. Baldwin scored a career-high 17 points to go with a team-high seven rebounds and Henry added 15 points, six boards and three steals.
As a team, Averett shot 49.3 percent from the floor and dominated the glass by a 52-36 margin.

KeShawn Lewis each had four assists.
The Cougars earned their sixth win in a row, including the second straight at home, on alumni day for the men's basketball program. The win over the Falcons gave the Cougars a regular season sweep of the series after Averett won 99-83 at Pfeiffer on Jan. 7.
Averett plays host to William Peace University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
