BLUEFIELD, Va. — The Averett University wrestling team bounced back with a dominant 42-4 victory on the road over Bluefield College on Friday night, winning nine of the 10 matches on the dual.

Starting the dual at 165 pounds, Averett (7-8) got started quickly as freshman Isaiah Deck earned a dominant 16-2 victory over Bluefield (3-12) by major decision, scoring the final 16 points after giving up an early takedown for his 11th win of the year. Freshman Noah Wienclawski built off that momentum at 174 pounds with a 6-1 win by decision, his 10th win of the season, to extend the lead to 7-0.

Freshman George Moseley's strong season continued as he collected a first-period pin at 184 pounds to give Averett a 13-0 lead through three bouts. This was his 16th pin of the season, setting a program record for pins in a season, as he also ranks among the top in the nation in pins. He also ranks second on the team with 24 wins.

Freshman Kowan Lee then won by forfeit at 197 pounds before freshman Trent Ragland got a pin of his own at 285 pounds extended Averett's lead to 25-0 and allowed him to improve to 15-4 on the season.

No. 5 junior Sam Braswell then clinched the dual for the Cougars with a 12-6 win by decision at 125 pounds that gave them a 28-0 lead and Braswell his 22nd win of the year. Sophomore Joseph Jones followed that up with a dominant 19-2 victory by tech fall to extend the lead to 33-0. Additionally, this was his 16th victory of the season.

Then at 141 pounds, No. 9/8 junior Brandon Woody got an easy first period pin to give Averett a 39-0 lead. This not only improved on his team-best 32-1 record, but also was his 17th straight win, setting a program record for most consecutive wins.

The match of the night took place at 149 pounds, where junior David Shelton, who recently moved up a weight class, gutted out a tough 6-5 win by decision for Averett's final win of the night that gave it a 42-0 lead. The Cougars then lost by major decision at 157 pounds to conclude the night with a 42-4 win.
