DANVILLE, Va. — Gold defeated White 3-0 in Wednesday night's Averett University volleyball intrasquad scrimmage in the Grant Center. Gold won 25-22, 25-19 and 25-21.
Gold overcame a slow start in the opener and held off White late 25-22 in the first set. After White opened with a 6-2 lead in Set 2, Gold went on a 16-2 run to take control before finishing off the game with a 25-19 win to go up 2-0 in the match. White made a late run in Set 3, but Gold held on 25-21 to take the match in three.
Sophomore
Lauren Montren led Gold with a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs. Junior
Zamyiah Mangum added seven kills and 16 digs, freshman
Emma Nash had seven kills and four total blocks and freshman
Erin Gray had 16 digs. Senior
McKenzie Miller finished with 32 assists, 10 digs and five kills.
White was left by freshman
Sarah Marlowe's seven kills with no errors and four blocks. Sophomore
Morgan Barnes and freshman
Chelsea Brooks-Giles matched Marlowe with seven kills, with Barnes totaling a team-high five blocks. Freshman
Makkenzie Compton added 27 assists and 10 digs and junior
Devin Lassiter recorded a match-high 20 digs.
The Cougars are scheduled to hold their final intrasquad scrimmage of the fall on Saturday at noon. Averett will honor its two seniors
