DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University's Center for Community Engagement and Career Competitiveness (CCECC) awarded Averett volleyball student-athlete Grey Capozzoli with the Engaged Student Leader Award for 2020-2021.

The Danville native has made the most of her time with the Cougars on and off the court as member of Averett's chapter of the national Bonner Leaders program and spends a lot of her time at the University of Virginia Cancer Research Center based in Danville.

"It means so much to receive this award from the CCECC, especially during these difficult times," Capozzoli said. "This award has made me reconnect with why it is so important to give back to our community."

The CCECC at Averett is the regional hub for linking students and faculty with community partners to create distinct learning experiences and career opportunities. Capozzoli plans to keep her work up with the program and is excited to give back even after graduation.

"This is something I will continue to do during the rest of my time at Averett, but also something I will take with me after I graduate," Capozzoli said. "Giving back is a priority to me and will continue to be in my future."
