DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University dropped a 66-59 USA South Conference decision to Greensboro College on Saturday at home.
Averett (13-7, 7-4 USA South) jumped out to a 19-13 lead following the opening quarter and controlled a 35-25 advantage heading into the half, after shooting 43.8 perfect from the floor in the opening two quarters.
Greensoboro (11-8, 8-4 USA South) quickly erased a 10-point disadvantage with a 12-2 run to begin the third quarter, however, Averett capitalized on several late third quarter possessions to even the quarter at 44 all.
The Pride finished the final quarter with a 22-15 run as the Cougars pulled with five points of Greensboro with time winding down, but were unable to get a shot to fall.
Freshman
Courtney Scott paced the Cougars with a team-high 15 points, while sophomore
Camryn Lunsford added 14 points.
Senior
Brooke Carthon posted an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double, while senior
Ravyn Johnson finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
Additionally, sophomore
Genesis Weiters added six points and a game-high 11 rebounds, also finishing with a team-high three assists.
The Cougars return to action on Sunday when they host Pfeiffer University at 2 p.m. in USA South Conference play.
