Wrestling drops road dual to Ferrum

| By:
FERRUM, Va. — The Averett University wrestling team lost to Ferrum College on the road, 24-15, on Tuesday night.

Averett (9-9) started off hot as freshman Trent Ragland's heavyweight match went down to the wire, but he got the takedown in overtime for the 3-1 sudden victory. No. 5 junior Sam Braswell then used two third period takedowns to pull away for the 12-8 win by decision at 125 pounds to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead.

Then, Ferrum (6-3) got a win by decision at 133 to cut the gap, 6-3. No. 9/8 junior Brandon Woody then came up big with a pin at 141 pounds to extend Averett's lead to 12-3. However, the Panthers won at the next four weight classes to take a 19-12 lead with just two bouts left. Freshman George Moseley earned a tight 2-1 win by decision at 184 pounds to give Averett a chance, but a loss by tech fall at 197 sealed the dual at 24-15.

The Cougars return to action on Feb. 20 for their final dual of the season, taking place at home in the Grant Center at 7 p.m.
