MISENHEIMER, N.C. — The Averett University women's lacrosse team fell 11-9 on the road against Pfeiffer University in USA South Conference action Wednesday afternoon. 
 
Pfeiffer (2-2, 2-0 USA South) managed to put up three goals on the Cougars in the opening 10 minutes of action to take a slight 3-0 advantage, before junior 
Elizabeth Peasley ended the Falcons run with the first of her four scores on the day. 
 
The Falcons matched Peasley's score just over a minute later to pull ahead 4-1, but junior 
Haley Boardway answered with a goal from senior 
Abby Taylor to pull within 4-2. 
 
However, Pfeiffer rattled off a 4-0 scoring run to push its lead to 8-2 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the opening half. 
 
Peasley ended the Falcons run with her second goal of the game and started a span of five straight goals for Averett as sophomore 
Courtney DeLone got in on the scoring action to pull Averett within 8-4 heading into the half. 
 
Averett (1-5, 1-1 USA South) continued its late first half momentum into the start of the second as DeLone netted her second straight goal off a pass from Taylor and Peasley found the back of the net for back-to-back unanswered scores, one coming off a pass from sophomore 
Hannah Mae Ayers to cut the deficit to one goal at 8-7. 
 
Pfeiffer cut the Cougars 5-0 scoring run after being held scoring for the opening 17 minutes of the second half with back-to-back goals push its lead to 10-7, but Ayers tallied an unassisted score to pull back within 10-8 of the Falcons with 8:49 remaining.
 
The Falcons fought back with a goal at the 5:46 mark extending their edge to 11-8, however Averett answered off sophomore 
Meghan Eamma's first goal of the season to pull with 11-9, but the damage had been done in the first half as the Falcons held on for the 11-9 victory. 
 
Peasley finished with a game-high for goals for the Cougars, while also collecting a team-high four ground balls. 
 
Additionally, Boardway collected a game-high seven draw controls, while freshman 
Taylor Roberts-Dishon forced a game-high four caused turnovers. 
 
Averett returns to action on Saturday when it hosts N.C. Wesleyan College at 4 p.m. at Daly Field for its annual team Molly Game.
