MISENHEIMER, N.C. — In its first USA South Conference game of the season, the Averett University men's lacrosse team lost to Pfeiffer University, 23-6, on the road on Saturday.

Pfeiffer (2-3, 1-0 USA South) started off hot with seven goals in the first quarter. The Falcons built off that momentum with with six more goals in the second quarter before sophomore Parker Corbett scored the first goal for Averett (0-6, 0-1 USA South) with 10 seconds remaining in the first half as the Cougars trailed 13-1 heading into the second half.

Pfeiffer scored six more goals in the third quarter, but Corbett added two more as he collected the first hat trick of his career as Averett fell into a 19-3 deficit after three quarters of play. The Falcons added four fourth-quarter goals while the Cougars saw sophomores Caleb Chester, Mike Michaud and Brenner Woodcock all score in the final quarter.

Corbett led the Cougars with three goals, while junior Rafael Walker and sophomore Ballard Earley each added assists. Defensively, sophomore Marques Fleming led the team with seven ground balls, while Walker led the team with three caused turnovers and added five ground balls. In goal, junior Jacob Shriver made 21 saves.

The Cougars return to action on March 14 when they host Piedmont College for the Team Molly Game and the first USA South home game of the season.
