DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis team earned a dominant 9-0 sweep over Wittenberg University on Sunday at the Averett Tennis Courts.

In doubles play, Averett (3-0) got three wins over Wittenberg (2-5) the duo of freshman Fabienne Bachmann and junior Eleanor Crane earned an 8-1 victory. In No. 2 doubles, the tandem of sophomore Inka Zeilstra and junior Louise Hovhammar won 8-2, while the freshman team of Alejandra Garcia and Nakia-Lee Goodall closed things out with an 8-5 victory in No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Cougars got six more wins to complete the sweep. Bachmann earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles while Crane followed it up with a 6-2, 6-1 spot in No. 2 singles. In the No. 3 spot, Hovhammar won 6-0, 6-4 while Zeilstra came away with a 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 4 slot. To close out singles play, Garcia won the closest match of the day, 6-2, 6-7, 12-10 in No. 5 singles while Goodall earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 6 singles.

Averett returns to action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. when it hosts Southern Virginia University.
