The Series: The  Cougars  are  6-3  all-time  against  Covenant, including a 57-45 win in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, last season that helped Averett clinch the USA South East Division regular season crown.
Averett at a Glance: Averett men's basketball opens its season with a non-conference game against fellow USA South Conference foe Covenant College on Saturday hosted on a neutral court by Brevard College. Averett is coming off a pair of scrimmages this week in its first action against outside competition. The Cougars, last year's USA South East Division regular season champion, were picked second in the USA South East Division preseason poll announced Wednesday. Averett received three first-place votes and finished one point behind favorite Methodist University. The Cougars return a bulk of their core team from last season, including USA South First Team All-Conference selection Isaiah Jones, as well as leading scorer Montre' Cash.
Covenant at a Glance: Covenant has played six games in addition to two Division I exhibitions in December. Saturday is the Scots' first action in 2021 after having several games canceled earlier this month. The Scots have thee players averaging double-digit scoring this season, led by preseason All-America selection and two-time USA South Player of the Year Will Crumly.
