Averett vs. Meredith
The Series: Averett had rattled off twelve straight wins against Meredith before falling 73-59 Friday night in the Grant Center. The overall series sits at 39-34 in favor of the Cougars. In a total of three games between the squads last year the Cougars won the first two games by a combined eight points. The last game of the year in the conference tournament was the biggest margin of the year for the Cougars winning 68-56.Â
Averett at a Glance:Â The Averett women's basketball program travels to Meredith College for it's second conference road game of the season. Despite dropping the first three games of the year, the young Cougars have many bright spots. They return four players from last season's roster while adding seven freshmen. Junior
Camryn Lunsford is the team's top returning scorer and just set a career-high with 24 points Friday night against Meredith. Junior
Genesis Weiters is the team's top returning rebounder and also just set a career-high with 14 rebounds in the teams last outing against William Peace. Averett was picked 5th in the USA South East Division preseason poll.
Meredith at a Glance: Meredith has began the season 3-0 with back to back wins over conference foe Greensboro and the Win over the Cougars Friday night. Sophomore Kate Perko is coming off USA South player of the week honors for the Angels and looks to continue her hot streak against the Cougars as posted 35 points and 20 rebounds last meeting. They were selected 6th in the USA South East Division preseason poll which was just one spot behind Averett.
