DANVILLE, Va. — Goals by senior's
Baste Endresen and
Erik Blick proved to be the difference in Averett University men's soccer's senior day victory over Methodist University on Saturday.
Averett (7-6-1, 3-1-1 USA South) wasted no time getting on the board as senior
Johnny Kummander played a pass just inside the 18-yard box back to Endresen that he blasted to the back of the Methodist net for the early 1-0 lead.
Endresen would play a factor on the Cougars second goal when he was dragged down on a foul inside the Cougars offensive 18-yard box resulting in a penalty kick that Blick converted for the 2-0 advantage.
Sophomore
Rion Klaas added his third goal of the season in the second half scoring on a penalty kick in the 68th minute for a commanding 3-0 edge.
Methodist (2-9-2, 0-4-1 USA South) got on the board with five minutes remaining in regulation scoring off a free kick that was headed into the net to make the score 3-1.
However, Blick's penalty kick goal in the first half proved to be the game-winner as the Cougars compiled a 19-14 shot advantage with an 11-5 shot on goal edge.
Senior
Caleb Carpenter got the start in net for the Cougars recording four saves while picking up the victory.
Averett recognized 12 seniors prior to the game on Saturday as
