DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis program opened up the 2021 season with a 5-4 loss against Division II Catawba College on Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts. 

Junior Jorge Figueroa won his No. 1 singles match 8-7 while sophomore Rufus Nurminen won his No. 2 singles matchup 8-3. Sophomore Maksim Sukhomlinov was the third win in singles action for the Cougars at No. 5 singles winning 8-5. 

In doubles action Averett picked up one win from the duo of sophomore Evgeniy Bogdasaryan and Figueroa 8-5 in No. 2 doubles.   

The Cougars are back in action when travel to Christopher Newport University  Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.
