BUENA VISTA, Va. — Averett University volleyball dropped a conference road match 3-1 at Southern Virginia University on Thursday evening.
Southern Virginia (20-4, 11-2 USA South) won 25-14, 25-27, 25-15 and 25-21 to snap the Cougars' seven-match winning streak.
Averett (19-6, 9-4 USA South) got off to a slow start, falling in the opening set. However, the Cougars bounced back to win a tightly contested second frame to tie the match, 1-1. Southern Virginia went ahead 2-1 with another big win in Set 3. Averett looked poised to force a fifth set, but the Knights inched ahead late to win in four.

Erin Gray had a team-high 18 digs, with junior
Lauren Montren recording 14 digs and freshman
Carlie Deason adding 11 digs. Sophomore
Emma Nash had a team-high eight kills and freshman
Kinsley Stevens had a team-best 13 assists.
Averett travels to Salem College on Saturday for a tri-match against the Spirits and William Peace University.
