FAIRFAX, Va. — Senior Sam Braswell finished a perfect 3-0 on Saturday to help Averett University wrestling finish 1-2 overall at the George Mason Patriot Duals and upset Bellarmine University 22-16.
 
Averett (1-2) opened the morning against Bucknell University (3-0) falling 40-3 after Braswell knocked off Brandon Seidman by decision 7-5. 
 
Braswell kept his opening momentum going against Bellarmine (0-3) in the Cougars second dual of the day being Jack Parker by major decision 15-5 to give Averett a 4-0 lead. 
 
Senior Joseph Jones beat Max Dansereau 11-5 by decision to extend the Cougars lead to 7-0 before fellow senior Brandon Woody but Averett up 10-0 with a 3-1 overtime victory over Logan Hoskins. 
 
Freshman Gabe LaVey beat Mitch Collica 3-0 by decision to give Averett a 13-0 edge before Bellarmine got on the board with four straight victories to take a 16-13 lead. 
 
Junior Billy Baldwin tied the match at 16-16 with a 4-2 win over Charlie Cadwell and junior Trent Ragland gave the Cougars the upset by pinning Bryant Wilkinson in the third round to pick up the 22-16 victory.
 
George Mason (2-1) managed to come away with a 31-6 victory in the Cougars final dual of the day, but Braswell made it a perfect afternoon with an 11-5 win over Ben Monn and Ragland picked up his second win of the day with an impressive 3-1 victory over Ramses Montalvo. 
 
The Cougars return back to action on Nov. 20 when they travel to Greensboro, North Carolina for the Greensboro College Duals beginning at 9:30 a.m.
