DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's basketball dropped its regular season home finale 75-66 to conference foe Pfeiffer University on Wednesday afternoon at the Grant Center.
A close game through the first half, Pfeiffer (6-2, 6-2 USA South) used an 8-0 run to claim the lead and take a 49-42 advantage with 13:42 to play in the second period. Averett (5-5, 5-4 USA South) closed back within one midway through the half and stayed within striking distance. Yet, the Cougars couldn't get that final run to get past the Falcons down the stretch.
Averett had four scorers in double digits, with senior
Montre' Cash leading the team with 16 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Redshirt junior
Isaiah Jones added 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, sophomore
Bryson McLaughlin had 13 points and five rebounds and sophomore
Corey Baldwin chipped in 10 points. Senior
Raymond Bullock III also had eight boards.
The Cougars, playing their second makeup game in as many days, led Pfeiffer by as many as six points in the first half before entering halftime with a 33-31 advantage.
Diez Mungro led Pfeiffer with 15 points, while Dorian Miles had 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Averett is scheduled to finish the regular season on the road Friday at N.C. Wesleyan College at 1 p.m.
