DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis program cruised past Randolph College with a 9-0 win Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore
Jorge Figueroa earned a victory winning 6-0, 6-7, and 10-8 in the last set.
Freshman
Josh Bottrell earned 7-6, 6-4 victories at No. 2 singles.
In No. 3 singles, freshman
Maksim Sukhomlinov won 7-5, 6-1.
Freshman
Joeri van Bladeren took his No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 5 singles, freshman
Aleki Gomez earned a victory winning 6-0, 6-0 as well.
Rounding out singles play, freshman
Philipp Bohnenkamp earned his No. 6 singles victory by default.
The Cougars were able to sweep Randolph in doubles action to begin the day. Each match was won in dominant fashion as the duo of senior
Thomas Woodcock and freshman
Rufus Nurminen won thier No. 1 doubles match 8-0. At No. 2 doubles, Sukhomlinov and freshman
Lasse Bonn earned a 8-1 victory. Sophomore
Evgeniy Bogdasaryan and Gomez won by default at No. 3 doubles.
The Cougars are back in action when they travel to the University of Mount Olive for an exhibition match on March 6 at 1 p.m.
