DANVILLE, Va. — Senior
Elizabeth Peasley and junior
Adriana Perez combined for 10 goals in Averett University women's lacrosse's 19-7 victory over N.C. Wesleyan College in USA South Conference action on Saturday.
Averett (3-4, 1-1 USA South) jumped out to an early 7-0 advantage in the opening 15 minutes of the first half as Peasley tallied back-to-back goals to open the game and Perez ended the run with back-to-back-to-back goals to end the run.
Junior
Courtney DeLone and senior
Gabbie Porter contributed goals to the opening run with Porter adding her first goal on the year.
N.C. Wesleyan (2-6, 0-2 USA South) cut into the Cougars lead with back-to-back goals, but Peasley, senior
Abby Taylor and DeLone put Averett up 10-2 before the Battling Bishops added a goal to make it 10-3.
Peasley increased the Cougars advantage with back-to-back goals to end the first half to control a 12-3 edge at the half.
The Battling Bishops cut the deficit to 12-4 with an early second half score, however, sophomore
Kelsey Steckroth netted back-to-back scores and Porter added her second goal on the evening to open up a 15-4 lead.
Sophomore
Morgan Dearing scored her first goal on the season with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation as Averett held on for the 19-7 victory.
Peasley finished with a game-high six goals, while Perez found the back of the net four times. Additionally, Steckroth, Taylor, Porter and DeLone all tallied two goals apiece.
Senior
Haley Boardway scooped up a game-high seven ground balls, while Peasley and Perez finished with 10 and eight draw controls, respectively.
Additionally, Averett recognized six seniors prior to game time as Boardway,
Lindsey Bateman, Taylor,
Caroline Earle, Porter and Peasley were all honored.
The Cougars return back to action on Friday when they travel to Fayetteville, North Carolina for a 2 p.m. USA South meeting with Methodist University.
