DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University volleyball lost 3-1 at home to William Peace University in a battle of two unbeaten teams in USA South Conference East Division play on Saturday. Averett won the first set 25-22, but the Pacers took the next three 25-22, 25-21 and 25-20 in a tightly contested match.
Averett (7-3, 4-1 USA South) opened with momentum in the first set, hitting .378 in the frame against William Peace (7-1, 5-0 USA South), which hadn't played in a week. The Pacers came back to tie the match with a win in the second set before taking the next two sets as well to clinch the match and avenge their season-opening loss to Averett.
The Cougars got double-doubles from sophomore
Lauren Montren and junior
Zamyiah Mangum. Montren had a team-high 14 kills with 14 digs, while Mangum had 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior
McKenzie Miller totaled 47 assists with nine digs, freshman
Erin Gray had a team-best 18digs and sophomore
Morgan Barnes has 11 kills for Averett.
Averett returns to action on Wednesday, March 31, when it hosts N.C. Wesleyan College in a non-conference meeting at 7 p.m.
