Women's tennis defeated by Sweet Briar

DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis program dropped its last match of the year against Sweet Briar College 7-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.

Averett (9-6) saw freshman Paula Ryhsen earn the lone point in singles action in the No. 4 slot. Ryhsen won 4-6, 6-4, 10-6. Ryhsen was selected to the USA South East Division First Team the conference announced on Thursday after posting a 15-1 record in singles play. Her only singles loss was to a Division II opponent.

Sweet Briar (12-5) earned wins in No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles, and No. 6 singles by default. The Cougars earned a win at No. 2 doubles from the duo of Ryhsen and sophomore Alejandra Garcia 8-1.

Senior Louise Hovhammar also earned a spot on the USA South First Team while fellow senior Eleanor Crane was voted to the USA South East Division Second Team.

The Cougars wrapped up the year 9-6 and 4-2 in USA South action, which was not enough to make a condensed conference tournament.
