ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Averett University baseball team dropped its final game of a three-game USA South Conference series against N.C. Wesleyan College 11-1 on the road Sunday.
N.C. Wesleyan (26-6, 14-1 USA South) struck for five runs in the second inning to take a commanding 5-0 advantage, before adding runs in the fourth and fifth inning and furthering its edge with three runs in the sixth to control a 10-0 lead.
Averett (8-20, 6-9 USA South) got on the board with a run in the eighth inning, scoring on an RBI single by senior
Ryan Traylor, but the Battling Bishops answered with another run in the bottom half of the inning to beat Averett 11-1.
The Cougars were limited to just three hits on the afternoon, one by Traylor and the other two by sophomore
Kyle Wilson and junior
Brandon Hatcher.
Averett returns to action on May 1 when it hosts Greensboro College for a conference doubleheader beginning at noon.
