Men's soccer loses to William Peace in double-overtime thriller

CARY, N.C. – The Averett University men's soccer team fell in a highly-contest double-overtime thriller 2-1 against William Peace University in the USA South Conference East Division semifinal on Saturday. 
 
William Peace (5-1-2, 5-1-1 USA South) gained a 1-0 advantage with a goal in the 20th in Saturday's conference semifinal and managed to keep the Cougars in check until the 87th minute. 
 
Averett (4-3-1, 3-2-1 USA South) powered in the equalizer with just over three minutes remaining on sophomore Sebastian Widen's first goal on the season to send the contest to overtime. 
 
The Cougars and Pacers played a scoreless opening 10 minutes of overtime, however, William Peace tallied the game-winning score at the 104:25 mark to advance to the East Division championship. 
 
Averett out shot the Pacers on the afternoon 18-17 with a 14-12 shot on goal advantage, while senior Colton Dutchess turned away 10 William Peace scoring chances.
