Averett at a Glance: Averett, the defending USA South Conference East Division champion, was picked as the preseason favorite in the East again in 2021. The Cougars have opened the season 5-0, including four wins in their own Cougar Classic last weekend. The 3-0 win over ODAC preseason favorite Washington and Lee University and a five-set comeback win over Oglethorpe helped the Cougars earn votes in the latest AVCA poll. Averett also garnered the USA South Player of the Week in senior Sarah Shropshire, who was the Cougar Classic MVP.
Piedmont at a Glance: Piedmont is still seeking its first win entering Oglethorpe's tournament after the Lions went 0-4 in Averett's Cougar Classic last weekend. Piedmont won only one set in four matches. The Lions face Millsaps College at 9:30 a.m. Friday prior to playing Averett.
Maryville at a Glance: The Scots opened with a 3-0 win over Mississippi University for Women but dropped their last two against Berry College and Sewanee, respectively, at Berry's tournament.
