The Series: Averett trails 12-2 in the all-time series with CNU dating back to when the Cougars and Captains were conference foes in the USA South Conference before CNU left for the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The two institutions haven't met since 2014.
Averett at a Glance: Averett makes its debut at home this season with a non-conference matchup with Christopher Newport on Saturday. The Cougars rallied in the fourth quarter but ran out of time in a 31-24 loss at Ferrum College to open the season on Sept. 4. Still, Averett had two players earn weekly recognition from the USA South. Junior kicker Will Caviness was named Special Teams Player of the Week and freshman receiver Marquise Woodruff was named Offensive Rookie of the Week.
