FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University men's basketball extended its winning streak to five games with a dominant 81-56 road win in conference play over Methodist University on Sunday.

Averett (7-8, 4-1 USA South) shot 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded Methodist (1-11, 0-2 USA South) 45-18 as the Cougars pulled away in the second half.

Junior Corey Baldwin, the reigning USA South Conference Player of the Week led the scoring with 16 points and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds. Junior Bryson McLaughlin also scored in double figures with 14 points while grabbing seven boards.

Averett never trailed in the game as the Cougars built a 24-13 lead less than 12 minutes into the contest. Methodist trimmed its deficit down to seven moments later, but Averett pushed its lead back to double digits soon after and took a 39-28 lead into halftime.

The Cougars led by more than 20 points for a bulk of the second half as they cruised their fifth consecutive victory.
